Volunteers / Staffing

What kind of vetting and screening do staff and volunteers go through?

Since our leadership conference is spread over three days and student ambassadors must remain at the accommodations each night, any staff over the age of 18 at the time of the seminar are required to provide COLS with a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC). This check is mandated by the Board of Directors in line with our Plan to Protect policy. The VSPC is a more thorough and complete criminal background check conducted by police stations.

When and how are staff chosen for the annual seminar?

​Applications to be on the team for a three-day leadership conference are typically released later in the fall (usually in December) and remain open for about one month. Decisions are made by February of each year. Application processes vary depending on the position being applied for.

Are volunteers and/or staff paid for their work?

100% of funds donated to COLS goes back to students by planning annual leadership seminars, alumni retreats, and other social events. No one is paid for their work with COLS.
